Sharese “Stevie” Caldwell announces candidacy for Milton School Committee

I’m running to represent you on the School Committee because I want to ensure that our schools are positioned to provide all of our students with good educations, and to send them out into the world as good people. In support of this goal I believe that all students, regardless of means, ability, and background, should have the opportunity to access best-in-class tools and resources. It is also imperative that we as a community that thrives on the strong academic reputation of our public schools make sure to take care of the whole student, meaning that we also provide mental health and emotional support. I firmly believe that when our students thrive, our schools thrive, and when our schools thrive, our town thrives.

I am prepared to give you my energy, my commitment, and my background in service to the Milton Public Schools. I am a mother of a Pierce Middle School student. I am myself the product of a public school education. I have experience working with complex systems, and make no mistake about it: Milton Public Schools, like any school district, is a complex system. It serves a diverse populace, a wide range of constituents, and is facing complex issues that require solutions that are both thoughtful and data-driven. My experience building cross-functional teams; managing large and small projects; tracking revenue, expenses, and budgets; and conducting in-depth interviews for hiring are directly applicable to the responsibilities of a School Committee position.

I will help improve transparency and education around the issues that affect our district, and to foster collaboration with all stakeholders and departments. I am running for School Committee because I am committed to being part of the team that works on our current challenges while also keeping in mind the long-term goal of a strong, thriving educational community for all of our students.
