Nicole Boyson Rukstalis announces candidacy for Milton Board of Assessors

My name is Nicole Boyson Rukstalis and I’m running for the Board of Assessors. I am a Professor of Finance and department chair at Northeastern University, where I have worked for 21 years. I am the first woman to be named a full professor in the finance department at Northeastern. I hold a PhD in Finance with a minor in economics from The Ohio State University.

I am also the co-editor of the Financial Analysts journal and a principal at Longview Investment Advisers, a Registered Investment Adviser.

Prior to academia I worked as a CPA in public accounting and banking for 8 years.

I am a Milton mom of two teens, I have subbed numerous times at Pierce Middle school, and I am the Treasurer and a Trustee at the United Congregational Church in Milton.

Having served as the Treasurer for several local political campaigns, including the current Override Campaign, I have become more and more interested in serving the Town in an elected capacity.

The Board of Assessors, which is responsible for overseeing the work of the Town assessors and works closely with other financial leaders of the town, is a great fit for my skill set, experience, and attention to detail. I consider this role to be a non-partisan position that does not favor or benefit one party over another.

In addition to the routine work of the board which involves approving budgets, tax assessments, budgeting growth, and performing compliance work, the board has a role to play seeking additional sources of funding outside of property and excise taxes.

These can come from two sources. One is state and other grants that the Town may be eligible for, and the other is the Town’s PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) program which encourages non profit entities to voluntarily contribute to the town’s revenue.

I plan to ensure that the Town is maximizing revenue from these other sources, to reactivate the PILOT subcommittee, and to work hard with town leaders to ensure that no money is left on the table. I hope that I can count on your vote on April 29!
