Andrew Koh announces candidacy for Milton Town Meeting Member, Precinct 8
As a new member of the Warrant Committee, I am new to town governance but have almost three decades of operations management and finance experience, including most recently over 12 years of management experience at a non-profit community development financial institution. I have a history of starting multiple non-profits and have served on the boards of many charitable organizations. With my youngest of two sons finishing his junior year in high school, I have used my newfound time to give back to my community.
Why am I running for Town Meeting? I am a member of the Warrant Committee which spends well over a dozen hours a week deep-diving into financial and operational matters of the town. This Committee crafts opinions on the articles that Town Meeting members vote upon. The Milton’s issues are issues with which the members of the Warrant Committee already invested in. I bring a deeply pragmatic and centrist opinion into town matters and parlay my non-profit operations management experience into practical solutions. Frequent questions I pose are: “Why do we do this?” “Can it be done better?” and “Does this make sense for Milton?” The answers I push for often lead to “How to do more with less,” critical answers in a budget constrained town with a limited number of staff who already work hard and to the limits of their capacity.
I believe in making heavy investments in technology, operational efficiency, strong schools, good public infrastructure and roads, and most importantly in public safety. This only works when combining this investment with sound fiscal governance and controls, proper risk management and collaborating with the community. Smart investments lead to a strong Milton. These investments are good long-term investments for homeowners in Milton.
Having undergone the first Deep Energy Retrofit of a home in Milton over almost 15 years ago, my wife Tracy and I believe in the need for energy efficiency and renewable energy. Investing in efficiency is at the heart of who I am. I believe in looking at impact and outcomes and backing it up with data. I volunteer my time with organizations only where I believe I can contribute and have a material impact.
I aim to enhance the town’s capacity for sound, fiscally responsible investments that benefit everyone. If this resonates with you, I would appreciate your support.
