Denis Keohane announces candidacy for Milton Planning Board
I am proud to announce my candidacy for a position on the Milton Planning Board.
For 31 years, my wife Mary and I have lived in Milton and loved every minute of it. Our three grown daughters were all raised in town, attended the Milton schools, played in all sports and love being from Milton.
Originally from Ireland, I arrived in the US in 1988, age 21 and settled in Milton in 1994. I attended the University of Massachusetts Boston and Eastern Nazarene College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. I am the founder and President of the Keohane Company Ltd, a professional Real Estate Development and Management company since 1989. I am also a former member of the Milton School Committee (2010-12), a former member and chair of the Select Board (2012-2015) and a current member of the Board of Advisors to Beth Israel Deaconess hospital Milton.
My experience in planning is extensive. I have been in front of Planning Boards all over the state for 30 years and honored to bring that experience to my home town of Milton. Our Planning Board is ineffective, and our town is under a development siege, a result of poor planning over the past few decades. What is being built currently is needed, and more, but not all at once, as we are experiencing. My goal is to protect and preserve the character of Milton for our children and generations to come after us while performing timely, thoughtful, caring and clever planning so that all types of housing will be available for present and future generations to come. Saying no all the time is not the answer.
Saying no will get us force fed by the State whether its 40B’s or the MBTA Communities Act. Perhaps saying yes and planning for decades ahead while retaining local control will be the answer. If I am elected on April 29th, I can promise you that I will put my experience, knowledge, expertise, and common sense to unify this board for the greater good of all our town.
