The Milton Police Department issued an advisory via its Facebook page on November 21, warning residents about an apparent stolen check scheme.

Milton Police Advisory!

Over the past several weeks there have been multiple reported cases of checks being stolen from various mailboxes throughout the town.

The thefts have occurred from standard mailboxes, and tamper proof mailboxes.

The stolen checks are then being altered for large sums and cashed throughout the state at different financial institutions.

We are asking the public to report any suspicious activity around any mailboxes.

We also recommend the use of online banking services or hand delivering you letter directly to the post office.

If anyone should have any information regarding this matter, please contact or Detective Valter Pires at 617-898-4837 ( [email protected]).

If you wish to remain anonymous the Milton Police Tip line is available 24/7 at 617-698-COPS
