Milton resident Carol Ruiz, CPA, was selected as a 2024 Women to Watch Award winner by the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs), the professional association of certified public accountants, representing over 11,500 members. The awards recognize women who have made outstanding contributions to the accounting profession, their communities, their firms or companies and to the development of women as leaders.

Ruiz, a partner at PwC LLP, is one of seven women selected to receive a 2024 Women to Watch Award. She is being honored in the Experienced Leader category, reserved for women with more than 15 years of experience in accounting. Awards are also presented in the Emerging Leader category, which is reserved for women with fewer than 15 years of experience in the profession.

“MassCPAs is proud to recognize these exceptional women for their outstanding contributions to the accounting profession and their communities,” said Zach Donah, CAE, president and CEO of MassCPAs. “Carol’s leadership and dedication have made a significant impact on our industry, and we’re excited to celebrate her achievements.”

With over 20 years of experience in audit services, specializing in the health industries sector, Ruiz leads audit engagements, enhances audit quality and contributes to thought leadership publications. She is an active participant in diversity initiatives as a PwC Diversity Partner Champion and a leader in PwC’s National Latino Inclusion Network. She has served on MassCPAs’ Board of Directors for five years, including as vice-chair and audit committee chair, and is recognized for her community engagement, including financial literacy programs and volunteer work with bilingual students. Her leadership extends to mentoring underrepresented staff through PwC’s Thrive program and facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) discussions. Ruiz’s contributions have been acknowledged with awards such as the ALPFA Rising Stars Award and recognition during Women’s History Month by Accounting+ social media channels.

“I’m incredibly proud of Carol and all she has achieved as a leader at PwC and within the community,” says Dave Foss, managing partner of PwC’s Boston office. “Her unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can grow and succeed has been truly inspiring. At every turn, she has persevered, carving out a unique path for herself and others. Watching her development as a leader has been a privilege – she’s earned not just respect, but the genuine admiration of her colleagues. Carol embodies the spirit of a go-getter, turning every challenge into an opportunity and paving the way for others.”

Award recipients will be honored on October 29 at MassCPAs’ Women’s Leadership Summit at the Westin Hotel in Waltham.
