City Year Greater Boston welcomes Milton resident Todd Markson to leadership board
City Year Greater Boston (CYGB) today announced two new members to their leadership board, Alexis Smith-Attuquayefio, Director of Operations, New Product Introduction (NPI), and Project Management Office (PMO) for Satio, Inc., and Todd Markson, Partner at Bain Capital in their Tech Opportunities Fund. The City Year Greater Boston Board is a group of dedicated volunteers who believe that all students deserve a learning environment in which they can achieve their full potential.
Board members serve as advocates and champions for CYGB, considering issues of strategic importance to the future of the organization and actively supporting the achievement of the site’s annual private revenue goal. In addition to site engagement and fundraising responsibilities, CYGB board members are required to join one Board Committee, attend and prepare 75% of CYGB Board and Committee meetings, and attend a Board retreat.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Springfield native, Alexis Smith-Attuquayefio has over 19 years of experience leading and innovating in process development, manufacturing, and supply chain across several industries. Prior to joining Satio as Director of Operations, NPI, PMO, she worked for leading companies including Praxair (now Linde), DuPont, L’Oreal, Abiomed (now Johnson & Johnson MedTech), and Accenture.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to align and contribute to the future of education, by collaborating and amplifying the mission and goals of City Year in the Greater Boston area,” said Smith-Attuquayefio. “As a STEM advocate and the daughter of a nearly 30-year educator, I care deeply about education, resources for our students and inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals.”
Smith-Attuquayefio also serves as President of The National Society of Black Engineers Boston Professionals, a leading Boston-based organization dedicated to the academic and professional success of Black and African American engineering students and professionals.
Prior to joining Bain Capital as a Partner, Todd Markson was CSO & COO at Cengage, where he led strategy, corporate development, channel, pricing, procurement and supply chain. Before Cengage, Todd was a management strategy consultant in London, Dubai and Boston, most recently as a Senior Principal in the Technology and Private Equity practices of BCG. Earlier in his career, Markson was a technology entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, co-founding and successfully exiting education technology and information services companies.
“I have been engaged throughout my life with charities and organizations that provide opportunities for children from historically underrepresented and economically constrained backgrounds,” said Markson. “As I was thinking about joining a non-profit board, I wanted an organization focusing on children’s education that had both a local and national footprint, and City Year was a clear fit. Given Bain Capital’s long history with City Year, I was excited to continue the tradition and deepen the partnership.”
Markson received an MBA with honors from the University of Michigan and a BA in Political Science from Brown University. Following graduation, he spent two years as a teacher in Mali, West Africa with the Peace Corps, leading numerous micro-finance initiatives in communities in the Sahara Desert.
