Superintendent releases updates for March 26, 2024
Dear MPS Community,
Welcome to spring! It wasn’t much of a winter by traditional standards. I hope that the change of season and the increasing activity of our schools at this time of year is a welcome shift.
We have been busy over the last months, compiling all of the listening and learning information our students, staff, families, and community have shared about Milton Public Schools. It has been an incredible year, learning from all of you about Milton’s past, present, and hopeful future. As I shared in my Entry Plan at the beginning of the year, the work of understanding where we are collectively and building forward from there thoughtfully is absolutely essential to accelerating the learning of every student in our schools.
To that end, we have put together a comprehensive Priority Report (linked here on our website and in Google drive) to consolidate all of the listening and learning that I’ve done, along with an analysis of some of the priority areas that are part of building a clear and actionable plan for the coming years. Please take a moment to review the report to get a sense of what the Milton community has shared and where we see our work starting to coalesce. One note is that the Report does not cover all areas of our work, so not seeing something within it does not mean we won’t be continuing work in specific areas.
In the months ahead, we will be entering into phase III of the Entry Plan, which is the development of an Implementation Plan to guide our strategic vision and actionable objectives. As you will see in the Priority Report, there is a lot on the table. In order to build towards coherence, which is one of the main findings from the Report, the Implementation Plan will be constructed with continued stakeholder input. Look for information in the months ahead as we finalize this work.
Thank you for all you do, every day, to make our students and our schools alive with learning.
With gratitude,
Peter Burrows, D.Ed.
