Lucy Rugo announces candidacy for Town Meeting Member for Precinct 3
My name is Lucy Rugo, and I’m excited to be running for Town Meeting in Precinct 3. I’m a problem-solver and curious by nature, and I like to see things from all sides. I look forward to applying that approach to the many opportunities and challenges facing our town in the years ahead.
I am a Milton Public Schools parent and step-parent (Glover and Pierce) and am currently volunteering as a room parent and in the Glover outdoor classroom. I strongly believe in our public schools, and am committed to ensuring that our children continue to have access to great, well-funded schools, with services and space to help all our kids thrive.
I have lived in Milton with my husband since 2016, and have roots here that go back several generations. I attended the Milton Academy Lower School before graduating from Boston Latin School, and have attended St. Michael’s since childhood (my mother also used to work at St. Michael’s). My sister and I are the fourth generation of Rugos to live in town: my great-grandfather built a house on Hinckley Road (next to the house his brother built), and my grandfather built a house on Centre Street, where my father (a real estate broker in town for many years) and his siblings grew up.
I went to Emory University, where I majored in Sociology with a minor in Community Building and Social Change. I then got a master’s in mental health counseling from William James College, with a concentration in couples and family therapy. I worked as a mental health counselor for an organization providing early intervention services for kids ages 0-3, and I am now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I also have experience in nonprofit HR, finance, and operations/administration.
In my personal life, I’m an avid gardener, nature lover, cultivator of native species, and grower of pollinator-friendly and edible plants. I love spending time outdoors with my family and walking our puppy around the neighborhood.
I look forward to building on these personal and professional experiences, and working together with folks from all across town, to move Milton forward inclusively, responsibly, and with kindness.
