Lizzy Carroll announces candidacy for re-election to School Committee
My most important role is mom of two daughters, Annie and Julia, who attend Tucker Elementary School. My husband James Jenkins and I are both Town Meeting Members representing Precinct 3, and we absolutely love living and raising our family in Milton. Elected to School Committee in 2021, I have served for the past year as our School Committee Chair.
I began my career as a high school teacher in the Bronx, NY and my hometown Boston Public Schools, earned my doctorate in Education Policy from Harvard, and have worked for the past 12 years as a leader across K-12, university, and nonprofit settings. As a nonprofit program director, I manage a budget and team that supports thousands of educators across New England. Working every day with scarce resources, I have to be efficient and strategic with how I invest my budget and my team’s time for maximum impact.
If you have watched any of our School Committee meetings over the past three years, you know my leadership style is open-minded and pragmatic, focused on solving problems through teamwork, guided by data, with a balance of respect for tradition and the courage to embrace change. A few highlights of my service include: building camaraderie on the school committee, bargaining union contracts that value our educators and staff while advancing our district, strengthening governance through creation of a school committee handbook, partnering with our new superintendent to support his successful entry plan, and advocating for solutions to our overcrowding, including building a new school.
Last year, we selected our new superintendent through a process of community input, and he has recently delivered priorities that represent the vision for MPS going forward, formed through listening and learning from community, families, students, and staff. Since 2021, we have elected six new school committee members, and our new superintendent is in the process of building an entirely new central office leadership team. In order to maintain our district’s positive momentum, we need to retain some stability, and I am running for re-election to provide that and complete the important work that we’ve begun this past year.
I know we can fulfill our promise to give every child in Milton the opportunity to thrive in school. I represent the proven leadership and commitment to ensure we follow through on that, so I ask for one of your two votes on April 30.
Thank you!
