Shuttle buses to replace trains on Mattapan Line & sections of Red Line from Oct. 14-29
The MBTA has announced a temporary change in service, with shuttle buses taking the place of train services on the Mattapan Line and specific sections of the Red Line. This adjustment will be in effect from Saturday, October 14, 2023, through Sunday, October 29, 2023. The decision was unveiled during the MBTA Board of Directors’ Meeting on August 24.
The primary purpose of this alteration is to facilitate essential track maintenance, addressing current speed limitations and enhancing the safety of MBTA passengers. Throughout this period, the MBTA will offer complimentary and accessible shuttle bus options for commuters traveling on the Ashmont Branch and the Mattapan Line.
To foster engagement and communication, the MBTA will organize four open houses in September. These sessions will provide the public with the opportunity to interact with the project team, gain insights into construction specifics, and express their opinions, observations, and concerns. Information about these meetings will be shared at a later date through this link.
Key details concerning this service alteration include:
- Shuttle buses will operate at intervals of 5-6 minutes during peak weekday hours and every 10-15 minutes during both weekday and weekend off-peak hours.
- Wheelchair accessibility will be ensured on the shuttle buses.
- Trained Transit Ambassadors and other MBTA staff will be stationed at each shuttle stop to assist passengers.
- Passengers are advised to allocate extra travel time during this period of service adjustment.
