Leslie McCarthy announces candidacy for Milton Town Meeting Member, Precinct 4/4A

I am excited to announce my candidacy for Town Meeting Member in Precinct 4/4A.  My family and I moved to Milton in early 2019 and are grateful for such a wonderful community, especially our neighborhood abutting Kelly Field.  We enjoy the proximity to Boston while also having access to hiking in the Blue Hills. My oldest son, age 7, loves attending Tucker Elementary School, and our youngest, age 5, cannot wait to join his brother there next year.

Volunteering at Tucker was my introduction into being part of the Milton community.  First as a room parent, then as a PTO board member, and currently as Co-President of the PTO.  These opportunities allowed me to understand the strengths and challenges of not just the elementary schools but also those issues at the district-level.  It has been a joy to support such a strong community of educators and help our students thrive. However, it is clear having spent many hours inside the school buildings that the overcrowding is detrimental to both students and staff.

As Town Meeting Member I will support the land swap to build a new school for Milton Public Schools.  As someone who strongly believes in the need for conservation land, I am pleased with the revised proposal of the School Building Committee that took into account early feedback and additional land surveys. This is the best option for our town to provide the necessary space to educate our children. I will also advocate for existing and increased open spaces, accessible to all.

In my professional life I am an attorney who most recently worked in organizational consulting and will look to my decade plus experience in this area to help me think strategically about Milton’s future as a Town Meeting Member. Milton is a great town and my husband and I are fortunate to raise our family here.  I also know it can be better and I am eager to help it grow and change with its next generation.
