James Jenkins announces candidacy for Milton Town Meeting Member, Precinct 3
As a father of two Milton Public Schools elementary students, I am running for Town Meeting in Precinct Three with a strong commitment to excellent schools for all of our students and families. Milton’s great schools were one of the main reasons we, like many others, chose to raise our family here. I recognize first hand that our schools are overcrowded. While I understand the complexities and nuances around the land swap, I fully support it as our next logical step in the multi-year process led by the School Building Committee to address the crisis of overcrowding and build a new school. In addition to being a current MPS parent, I bring more than 10 years of experience as a middle and high school classroom teacher and coach who filled several different leadership roles in schools. I believe we all benefit when we invest in educating our young people in Milton.
I am also running for Town Meeting with a commitment to proactive planning that will both preserve our community character and move us forward responsibly. I have served as an executive director and now work as a fundraising advancement leader in the nonprofit sector, where my work is making mission-driven budgets work for the greater good. I will apply my experience and skills to helping solve the challenges we face when it comes to expanding our commercial tax base and complying with the state’s MBTA zoning law. We can include neighbors’ voices and honor what makes our town special, while embracing opportunities to grow in a responsible way.
I believe that Milton deserves informed, trustworthy, and engaged representatives who reject the fear, lies, division, and coded language that have eroded our national politics. I am running for Town Meeting Member in Precinct Three to participate in rational civil discourse about how we will address the opportunities and challenges before us. By working together, we can embrace an even brighter future for Milton.
