Mark Loring announces candidacy for Milton School Committee

I am grateful for the opportunity to run for Milton MA School Committee as well as Town Meeting in precinct 8.

I am a father of three children, two of whom already attend Cunningham Elementary and a third who will join them in a few short years. I am running for School Committee because I have direct experience in the areas of school management that our public schools are currently facing, I am determined to work for excellent educational opportunities for my children and their peers, and I believe deeply in the service of one’s neighbors.

Both my wife and I have worked in schools for the entirety of our professional careers. Since my start at Appalachian State University with a degree in secondary education, I’ve had the pleasure of being a fourth grade teacher in the rural and impoverished region of the Louisiana Delta, a homeschool teacher and afterschool director in a close-knit community of Indian immigrants in the suburbs of Seattle, an eager student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a school administrator at a turnaround school in Lawrence, and I now spend my days as the Chief Operating Officer for a network of four public charter schools in Boston that serve over 2,200 students in grades K-12.

Across my experience working in schools of many sorts, I have been able to learn a lot about the intricacies required to push them ever toward success. My skillset makes me uniquely qualified in this race to contribute to the work of our existing school committee members and their partnership with our new superintendent in the pursuit of excellence for Milton Public Schools. In the work of addressing the educational inequities that exist within our district, in the development of programs to support all students in our classrooms, in the critical design of attracting, developing, and retaining high-quality teachers, and in the inevitable pursuit of school buildings that are worthy of our students, I have the background to be helpful and effective.

When we moved to the Boston area in 2013 after a series of cross-country opportunities, we didn’t know it would be our last stop. Ten years later, we find ourselves well settled in the welcoming town of Milton and continue to be overwhelmed with the kindness of our neighbors and new friends. Through the lenses of a father, a teacher, a school administrator, and a public school district leader, I hope to serve my neighbors in Milton on the School Committee.

Please vote for me on April 25th and visit my website MARKformiltonschools.my.canva.site to learn more about my campaign.
