The 1939 Rescue of the Squalus Submarine: The 3 Sisters – The Squalus, the Sculpin & the Sailfish – talk to take place February 21
There will be an in person naval history talk called “The 1939 Rescue of the Squalus Submarine: The 3 Sisters – The Squalus, the Sculpin & the Sailfish” which will be held on Tuesday, 2/21, at 7:00 p.m. in our Keys Community Room.
Speaker and historian Bob Begin will be back at the MPL to tell us all about the first submarine rescue ever, which happened in Portsmouth, NH in 1939 and about the 33 men who were saved.
This was unprecedented in the history of the U.S. Navy, as the crew was trapped at the bottom of the ocean and were rescued by a sub called “The Sculpin.”
The story has a surprise ending also, as our country first entered World War II. Please join us for this riveting program! No signup is required to attend and we hope to see you there!
