M. Joseph Manning Award recipients to be honored at May 15th EMNA ceremony
The East Milton Neighborhood Association will hold a ceremony on May 15, 2022 at Crane Field (Belcher Circle) in honor of the last 2 recipients of the M. Joseph Manning Award for Community Service.
2:30 p.m. – Meet and greet with neighbors
3:00 p.m. – Ceremony begins*
This year’s ceremony will honor Bob Sweeney and the late Edward Duffy. Bob Sweeney is the recipient of the 2021 M. Joseph Manning Award for Community Service and Edward Duffy was honored with the 2020 Award posthumously.
Mr. Sweeney has served the town in many roles. He has served as Director of the popular Learn to Skate Program for 57 years. He was also one of the twelve original signers to incorporate Milton Youth Hockey in 1971. Today, it is the largest Youth Hockey Program in Massachusetts. These programs have taught thousands of children how to skate and learn the sport of hockey. Off the ice, Mr. Sweeney has also held numerous positions in the Babe Ruth League and served on both the Select Board and School Committee.
Ed Duffy was a volunteer in Milton throughout most of his life, serving on the Milton Historical Commission, Milton Planning Board, and as a Town Meeting Member. In addition, he was instrumental in the East Milton annual block party on Crane’s Field and could be seen daily keeping the field free of litter, thereby inspiring an East Milton Neighborhood Clean Up Crew service project.
We hope many of you can join us to celebrate these remarkable members of our community!
* Please note – Seating will be limited. We suggest bringing a beach chair if you would like to sit during the ceremony.
