Select Board January 26: Council on Aging update, Declaration of Emergency due to blizzard and more
Council on Aging update
Christine Stanton, Director of Council on Aging, joined with an update. She says that membership is up and they are currently servicing half of the towns’ 65 and older population. They are continuing to do outreach and secure additional funding for issues such as adding more handicapped vehicles and providing mental health trainings and resources for residents and program participants. Equity and Justice for All Committee update
A DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) consultant has been chosen. The hope is that the process will begin mid February and it will take about 12 weeks to implement and roll out to the town. The committee is hoping to request additional funding as to keep the policies and procedures in place going forward. More information to be forthcoming at the meeting to be held on February 9. Governor of Stoughton Trust Fund update
Milton Residents Fund coordinator, Noreen Dolan, joined to discuss the current needs of those requesting assistance through the Fund. The majority of the requests are for housing, heating/gas/oil electricity, with minor requests for medical copays. Noreen is anticipating a need for mental health services and programs. The Select Board motioned to increase funds to 85k. Miltons’ Keith Yandle broke NHL’s Iron Man streak by playing 965th consecutive game since March 2009.
Milton Music Fest is scheduled to take place Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26.

During the brief meeting held on January 28th, the recent passing of former Town Administrator, John Cronin, was recognized with a moment of silence. His obituary can be found here: John A. Cronin – Dolan Funeral Services
