Hingham Church to host drive-thru nativity experience on December 12, 2020
Hingham, MA (December 7,2020) – Actors and even live animals are on tap this Saturday evening at an event hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hingham. Over the past few months, members of The Church have designed almost 60 costumes for the actors, and they have constructed scenes and several vignettes to tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ – all in a drive-thru format.
“We are very excited to be able to offer a special and socially-distanced way to celebrate the Christmas season,” said Brian Beitler, Bishop of the Hingham Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “When our congregation saw that social distancing requirements would make an annual Christmas party impossible this year, we felt inspired to do something for the community instead. We wanted to share the hope that comes from the story of Christ’s birth.”
Attendees will stay in the warmth and comfort of their vehicles as they drive through The Church’s parking lot, which has been transformed into various stages for live actors and animals to present the story of the Nativity through four different scenes.
“We hope this experience gives families and individuals the opportunity to safely ring in the spirit of the season, which is something we all need amidst the challenges that 2020 has brought to so many,” said Beitler.
The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. As part of the evening’s theme of giving back to the community, members of The Church of Jesus Christ will also be accepting donations of canned and dry goods that evening. All food collected will be donated to local food pantries.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is located at 379 Gardner Street in Hingham. The live drive-thru nativity will take place in the parking lot at their chapel on Saturday, December 12 from 5-7pm.
