Milton Public Library presents Actress Kathryn Woods: A Woman Ain’t I, A Depiction of Sojourner Truth
On Tuesday, 6/2 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., there will be a dramatic, virtual presentation by Actress Kathryn Woods, as she represents the life of Sojourner Truth. “Sojourner recalls her early days as a slave, details her relationship with God, and shares poignant stories of her days walking through this land. Ms. Woods uses Sojourner’s own words and spiritual music to recreate this truly inspiring woman.” She will tell a fascinating story about an incredible figure who made such a difference with her own perseverance and the way she lived her life. The program is less than one hour long, but there will be time at the end for questions and answers with Ms. Woods about Sojourner’s life and work. Kathryn Woods has acted in Boston for 20 years and her credits include performances with Theatreworks, the People’s Theatre, The Wheelock Family Theatre and the Underground Railway Theatre. She has also performed in Moscow, at the Edinburgh Arts Festival, across the U.S., and on C-SPAN cable TV. This online program will be directed by Cassandra Cato-Louis, Artistic Director, African Repertory Troupe and the play was directed by Mickey Coburn.
Please join us virtually and it’s also great for kids as this event is appropriate for all ages. Come learn more about the history of American slavery and emancipation by watching this talented actress who knows the character and her story so well. This will be a fun presentation, kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library, so we are able to watch a live play with family members!
Registration is required and please sign up here; a Zoom connection link will be sent to you via email on the day of the program. If you are using an iPad or phone you should download the Zoom app first.
