Milton Public Schools announces extended school closure

Dear Milton Public Schools Parents, Guardians, and Staff:

I hope this communication finds you and your family well. I write today with an update regarding the current school closure.

In his press conference earlier today, Governor Baker announced that the Massachusetts School Closing Order will be extended and that schools will reopen no sooner than Monday, May 4, 2020.

Since the initial closing, the Milton Public Schools teachers and staff have been partnering with parents and guardians to foster the overall well-being of our students and to create and support at-home learning opportunities. We will receive further direction from the Massachusetts Commissioner of Education in the upcoming days. We will refine our plans in light of the Commissioner’s guidance and share them with you by the beginning of April. In the meantime, we will continue with the current practice of providing at-home learning opportunities.

I know that this has been an uncertain and challenging time for students, families, teachers, and staff. In the midst of this, many of you have offered your words of support and volunteered to help others in need. We in the Milton Public Schools are grateful for your response and for our collective partnership. We remain committed to our students, staff, and their families. The health and safety of all the members of our community is our priority.

Sincerely,

Mary C. Gormley, Superintendent
