Forbes House Museum presents: Sweethearts at Sea: Love and Marriage in the Age of Whaling
The Forbes House Museum has a perfect lead-up to Valentine’s Day for anyone who loves romance, adventure, wine and chocolate.
Join us on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. to learn more about Captain John and Elizabeth Marble, a remarkable couple out of Fall River, MA who defied the social and industrial traditions of the mid-1800’s by going to sea together aboard a whaleship.
The program is presented by Amanda Goodheart Parks, a public historian specializing in the study of women and gender. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has worked as a historian, museum educator, and historical interpreter at museums and historical sites across southern New England.
“Sweethearts at Sea” is offered in conjunction with the museum’s temporary exhibit, “Man Overboard! How One Man Reckoned with the Challenges of the Sea.” Guests are invited to view the exhibit following the presentation and Q&A.
Wine and gourmet chocolates will be served.
Tickets are $20/person or $15/member and must be purchased in advance.
