Ayer Observatory at Milton Academy to be open this Friday, August 1

Observe and study celestial objects at Milton Academy

Astronomy students use the Ayer Observatory to observe and study celestial objects. The observatory’s 12-foot dome houses a five-inch Clark refractor for general classroom use; its smaller dome houses a 9-inch Takahashi reflector. Eight piers just outside of the observatory provide smaller, portable telescopes for larger group use.

Astronomy’s finest ambassador, science faculty member Jim Kernohan pushes science beyond the confines of the classroom, opening the Ayer Observatory to the School and the town on many Friday nights throughout the year. Mr. Kernohan’s guided tour of the stars and planets is a popular event on campus.

The observatory will be open to the public this Friday, August 1 from 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
