Wotiz Gallery to feature Milton artist Joyce Caggiano
Exhibit to be called “Facing It” and will show several types of media, including soft sculpture
During the month of July, the Wotiz Gallery at the Milton Public Library will host the paintings and other work by Milton artist Joyce Caggiano. The exhibit will be called “Facing It” and will show several types of media, including soft sculpture. Joyce began her artistic journey at the age of 7 with a “paint by numbers” kit. Bored by the tedium, she began taking art classes from teachers who encouraged her pursuit. Facing life’s joys and struggles are reflected in the colorful images on canvas and in her three dimensional figures. This display begins with various portraits in oils and continues with a collection of her soft sculpture dolls (often replicas of friends, relatives and famous characters). From the joys of dancing to the sadness of bereavement, this artist brings us from birth to death in many images. She has received many honors for her artwork, and during the past 20 years she has exhibited at Gross Pointe and Detroit, Michigan; Burlington, Vermont; at the Jefferson Cutter House in Arlington; and at the Milton Art Center. As an ordained Episcopal priest, Rev. Caggiano has been immersed in an active ministry at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Milton, and she believes that spirituality and the aesthetic are at the core of all creative human expression. The spiritual life sustains and nurtures her creativity, and she travels to her home in Italy every summer where she finds the time and inspiration to develop her craft. Please stop by at her free and open reception on Tuesday, July 2nd in the Gallery, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to meet the artist, and to view her lovely work.
