Susan Harvey announces candidacy for Precinct 7 Town Meeting
My name is Susan Harvey and I am running for town meeting member in precinct seven.
I’ve lived in East Milton since 1988 and been involved in many community organizations. I have been a member of East Congregational Church since 1991. Through East Church (EC) I have taught Sunday School, been on several committees as well as served as a Deacon. Most recently I was chair of the Growth and Development Committee and helped plan the first EC Block Party along with the East Milton Neighborhood Association (EMNA). Since then I’ve joined the EMNA and have become an active member on the board. As a Graphic Designer I have donated time and talent to !Celebrate Milton! As well as We are Milton (WAM).
For the past 25 years I’ve worked at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as the Director of the Technical Production Dept. creating text books for grades K-12. I’ve seen many changes during this time, the biggest embracing digital content along with print and seeing HMH move from a “publishing” company to a “learning” company.
My husband Paul DeMille and I have two sons, Dan and Mike both who graduated from Milton High School. Through my sons I have been active in many town sports, primarily baseball and both Dan and Mike played on the Al Thomas Baseball Team of the Boston Yawkey League. Al was a neighbor of ours and my kids learned to ride their bikes in his parking lot.
My kids are grown but there are many reasons I want to stay involved with Precinct 7. My niece recently moved to East Milton with her husband and they have since welcomed a son. I want to preserve the small town feel my family experienced for them to raise their family, the schools, the playgrounds and of course the sports. There have been a lot of changes in EM lately and lot’s of discussion of new development, re-zoning, and building a new fire house. That is why I have lent my voice to the EMNA and spoke up on our safety and traffic concerns and to slow down development until we have a plan in place.
My husband has since retired from being a Deputy Sheriff/Correction Officer at the Suffolk County Sheriffs Department and now provides transportation for the Milton Council the Aging. I still work and take advantage of the Neponset rowing club’s Masters program and enjoy watching the sun rise from a rowing shell on the river. As you can see we are still invested in this town and all it offers. My responsibility as a resident is to make sure East Milton fits in with the rest of the town by preserving its historical features while growing in proportion for the next generation and beyond. Change is good but not without proper planning and community involvement.
Please vote for me, Susan Harvey for Town Meeting Member, precinct 7. Thank you.
