The Milton Junior Woman’s Club received requests of more than $24,000 by 21 valuable nonprofit agencies seeking funding for various programs that help or enhance the lives of Milton residence. Of those requesting, 16 agencies were awarded grants totaling $10,000.

The MJWC 2019 grant recipients are the Friends of the Blue Hills, Share Our College Knowledge, Milton Council on Aging, Milton Parks & Recreation, St. Mary of the Hills School, Tucker Elementary School’s Music Program, Laboure College, Milton Early Childhood Alliance, Milton Interfaith Clergy Association, Milton High School’s Model United Nations program, Caron Treatment Centers, the Society of the Preservation of New England Antiquities (Historic New England/Eustis Estate), Milton Art Center, Forbes House Museum, Friends of Milton Public Library, Tucker Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, and the Quincy Choral Society.

“Grants are one for the two most important committees that we have within our club, said MJWC co-president Jenifer McNulty. “Through the efforts of our club and the community, we are able to raise a significant amount of money through the annual Milton Road Race. These monies allow us to give to the numerous groups that reach out to us for support. Our goal is to help Milton in the best and broadest way possible. We try to capture the various needs of our town and support the Milton children, teens, and senior citizens, as well as town departments. We consider ourselves lucky to be able to give back to this amazing town.”

Every year, the MJWC takes one of the applications and features it as a spotlight charity. This year’s MJWC spotlight charity is the Society of the Preservation of New England Antiquities doing business as Historic New England, which owns the Eustis Estate in Milton.

“We are thrilled to have the Eustis Estate as our Spotlight recipient. With the awarded grant, the Eustis Estate will be hosting two community events (Family Fun Day & the Victorian Birthday party) this summer. These are family events that the Eustis will provide free of charge to all Milton residents. Community involvement such as this is really what our club is all about and we want to support as much as possible,” McNulty added.

The Eustis Estate in Milton is a historic house museum that is part of Historic New England (“HNE”), the oldest and largest regional heritage organization in the nation. Founded in 1910, the organization owns and operates thirty-seven historic sites, including house museums and farms, exhibition and event spaces, and 1,284 acres of farmland, fields, forests, and gardens. HNE saves and shares New England’s past to engage and inform present and future generations. It engages diverse audiences in developing a deeper understanding and enjoyment of New England home life by being the national leader in collecting, preserving, and using significant buildings, landscapes, archives, stories, and objects from the past to today.

At the Eustis Estate specifically, HNE seeks to be an active part of the community by providing educational and enjoyable experiences. The museum is free to Milton residents during regular hours and the grounds are always free and open dawn to dusk. The programming staff at the Eustis Estate works to provide appealing events for different sectors of the community with a big emphasis on families.

Formed in 1912, the mission of the Milton Junior Woman’s Club is to make a difference in the community, the environment and the lives of others.

MJWC grants are made possible as a result of proceeds raised from sponsors and runners of the annual Milton Road Race, which is organized and staffed by the volunteer members of the MJWC.
