Pianist Zahili Gonzalez Zamora and her trio Mixcla to perform at Dot Jazz Series
Mixcla to perform at Dot Jazz Series tonight
Zahili Gonzalez Zamora and Mixcla will perform at Ashmont’s Parish of All Saints on Thursday evening March 14th. Mixcla features Cuban-born Zamora on piano and vocals, Chilean bassist Gerson Lazo Quiroga and Japanese percussionist Takafumi Nikaido. The three met as students at Berklee, and have worked together for a number of years. They released their debut CD in late 2018. “Our music presents a combination of the new and old musical traditions with a focus on Cuban styles. It represents multiculturalism and global unity in times during which there is so much division and oppression. In a world that feels like it is becoming narrow, music is inherently expansive.”
Their performance is part of the Dot Jazz Series, a co-production of Milton resident Mark Redmond and Greater Ashmont Main Street. Dot Jazz has been bringing live jazz to Ashmont since 2017, and nearby residents have been very responsive. “We’ve been thrilled at the response,” said Redmond, who’s been producing jazz events at various Boston-area venues since 2013. “There’s an enthusiastic audience for jazz in Dorchester and Milton and we hope to see new faces on the 14th!”
