Milton student Kahlil Cooper is finalist in oratorical contest at Boston College High School

Kahlil Cooper of Milton, a freshman at Boston College High School, was a finalist at the annual ‘Odyssey Declamation’ held on June 1 in the Bulger auditorium on the Dorchester campus. Nick Davis of Malden finished in first place, Ben Mulligan of Avon in second and a two way tie for third with Ryan Carey and Cal Noonan both of Scituate.

During the first six periods of the day, Freshmen English students, all who have read Homer’s Odyssey in translation during the year, declaimed lines from the Odyssey in the Bulger auditorium. After the six preliminary rounds of competition, where the best three declaimers from each class did their utmost to bring Homer’s ancient poetry to life, the entire freshmen class reconvened in the auditorium at 2:30pm to watch the six best declaimers face off in the finals.

The judges were members of the English department at the school, Mr. Gene Holmes and Mrs. Beth Killorin.
