Hands on distribution of solar-powered lights to occur throughout Puerto Rico
Donations accepted until Friday, May 18th
Members of East Church Congregational UCC in Milton have begun a fast-track drive to put portable, waterproof, solar-powered lights in the hands of people in Puerto Rico who are still – after 7 months – living without electrical power. It’s a simple idea! While the negotiations and rebuilding go on in the day, we give light to use each night – light to cook by, walk home with, put children to bed, read or write and do homework.
Our arrangements are solid. We have excellent solar lamp models and the cost is low – One lamp, the Luci, costs $10. A LuciPro, with a USB connector for quicker charges and cell-phone top-ups costs $12.50 (A shout out to MPOWERD, the manufacturer, for their deep discount!) Hands on distribution to individuals will be made through the UCC’s Disaster Relief volunteer teams working in Puerto Rico this summer. We hope to give 500 lamps to 500 people in desperate need.
For more information about donating:
Hurricane season starts June 1. As we get the word out to UCC churches and ask for contributions, we’re asking for your voice, too. Please tell your friends and neighbors we want to light Puerto Rico! by giving lights to people there whose nights are dark indeed. The deadline for donations is Friday, May 18th. Please make checks payable to East Church and put “solar lamps” in the memo line. You can also easily donate online by heading here: http://www.eastchurch.org/lanterns
Thank you. – Kate & Doug Rose and the East Church Benevolence Team
