Boston City Singers Tour Choir member Sam Higgins named a winner of the 10th Annual Fidelity Investments Young Artists Competition
Milton High School freshman to perform with Boston Pops
Boston City Singers Tour Choir member Sam Higgins has been named a winner of the 10th Annual Fidelity Investments Young Artists Competition at the Boston Pops. He will perform with three other winning musical acts at a special concert with the Boston Pops in June.
A freshman at Milton High School, Sam, 15, is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Higgins. He has been a member of Boston City Singers since he was four years old. Sam was chosen as a winner of the competition for his performance of J.S. Bach’s “Bereite dich, Zion.”
“It has been my dream to perform with the Boston Pops since I started singing with Boston City Singers at age four. Growing up in Boston with a family that values music education, I have always looked at the BSO and Boston Pops as being the best in the world. I’ve been singing since before I could talk and singing continues to be the biggest passion in my life. It is surreal that at the mere age of 15, I’m really starting to live out my dream — I want to be an opera singer! Thanks to opportunities with organizations like Boston City Singers and the Boston Pops, I’m realizing that my goals are achievable. My hope is that other young people in Boston get the chance to achieve theirs.”
In addition to his training with Boston City Singers, Sam studies with Eiji Miura, a graduate of Boston Conservatory at Berklee and a member of the faculty of New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School.
Sam and his fellow winners will be performing with the Boston Pops on June 6 at Symphony Hall along with Tony Award-winner and star of the TVLand smash-hit “Younger,” Sutton Foster. For more information about the Fidelity Investments Young Artist Competition, please visit https://www.bso.org.
