Art exhibit “Journey from Drafting Board to Easel” by local painter Paul Riley to be shown at Milton Public Library

Art exhibit to feature watercolors, pastels and acrylics

The Milton Public Library will host an art exhibit during the month of May called “Journey from Drafting Board to Easel” by local painter Paul Riley, to show his watercolors, pastels and acrylics. This Wotiz Gallery display reflects Mr. Riley’s career as a mechanical designer and a teacher of drafting and design. During his career he recognized the future in this field was computer-aided design and he eagerly embraced programs to apply technology to all drawing projects. As an educator Paul inspired many students to use technology to explore their creativity. After retiring, he began by taking drawing classes and moved from line drawing to more expressive free form. He began by using pastels and acrylics. His mechanical design-influenced works include “The Brush,” “Tools of the Trade” and “Waterworks.”

His appreciation for architectural form, angles and lighting is seen in paintings such as the “Baker Chocolate Building.” Later he began the study of watercolor techniques and his recent pieces reflect his appreciation for nature, notably “The Nest” and “Sunflower.” Currently Paul continues to take art classes and he is a member of the Milton Art Association. Still growing as an artist, he embraces experimentation with subject, technique and medium. There will be a free and open reception for this exhibit on Wednesday, May 9th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Please stop by and meet the artist and view his paintings.
