Courageous Conversations to celebrate Martin Luther King Day in a community-wide effort
For more than 20 years, The Milton Interfaith Clergy Association (MICA) has sponsored a town-wide Rev., Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on the evening of MLK day. This year’s celebration will take place on Monday, January 15th at 6:30 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Road in Milton.
Courageous Conversations Towards Racial justice will join the celebration in what is truly a community-wide effort which includes partnerships between the Milton Public Schools, St. Agatha and St. Mary of the Hills schools, the Town Selectmen, the Police Department, the Milton Times, Milton Academy and the Anti-Defamation League.
Among other component parts, this celebration includes a display of more than 500 pieces of student art and written work, choir performances by the Milton High School Gospel Singers and Milton Elementary School Singers, communal singing, a presentation by the Milton High Diversity Club and the winners of MICA’s annual scholarship for four Milton High students to attend the InIt Leadership Program. A highlight of the celebration is when a Town Selectman leads everyone in reading our annual reaffirmation of Milton as a “No Place for Hate” community.
