When: Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Where: Eustis Estate, 1424 Canton Avenue, Milton
Ever dream of wearing a ring or pair of earrings you made yourself, but thought you would never be able to make it happen? Learn the basics of silversmithing, including light hammering, delicate sawing, and wire forming, from expert metalsmith and jewelry instructor Leslie Hartwell of the North Bennet Street School’s jewelry program. Choose from designs based on jewelry in Historic New England’s collection, on view in the exhibition Mementos, or create your own design. By the end of the day you will have made a jewel you can wear, with no experience required.
Fee includes a boxed lunch and all materials including silver, tools, and safety gear. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm. You will be working with your hands for eight hours. Must be 14 years old. A parent must register all participants under 18.
About the instructor: After making simple silver jewelry in the early 1970s, Leslie Hartwell pursued other areas of craft including textiles and ceramics, and enjoyed a thirty-five-year career in graphic design. Returning to metalworking in 2002 led to a two-year commitment at North Bennet Street School to learn professional jewelry-making in silver, gold, and platinum. A 2006 graduate of the Jewelry Making and Repair program, she soon began teaching, drawing on her degree in education from Framingham State University.
The fee is $125 for Historic New England members and $175 for nonmembers.
Registration required. Please call 617-994-6600 or register online: http://shop.historicnewengland.org/EUS-WORKSHOP-2-10537/
