Milton Public Library to display “Best Of” exhibit throughout November and December
The Milton Public Library is pleased to announce that The South Shore Camera Club will be displaying their “Best Of” Show during the months of November and December 2017. The photographs presented exemplify the high caliber of work created by the club’s 200 members. The images run the gamut from Judy Bergman Hochberg’s delicate artistic rendering of a desert plant (“Yucca”) to June Kaps’ dramatic classic New England coastal storm (“Squall’s Comin”) to Michael Cushing’s touching street portrait of two Cuban gentlemen (“Cienfuegos, Cuba 2017”). Their work has been exhibited throughout New England at venues such as the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, J Jake Art Gallery in Boston’s South End, Plymouth Center for the Arts, Quincy Arts Fest, South Shore Art Center, Milton Art Center, New England Camera Club Council, and many other libraries, hospitals and galleries. These photographers have been honored to receive awards in recognition of their technical and artistic mastery of the craft. Several of their members have written instructional books about photography, and members’ photos have been published in local and regional newspapers and magazines.
The show will run from November 2nd through December 28th, and a free and open reception and awards presentation will take place on Thursday, November 16th from 6-8 PM. Acclaimed commercial and fine arts photographer Scott Nobles, a Milton resident, is serving as the judge, who will select recipients of “Best of Show” and other awards. Reception attendees may vote for their favorite photo to receive the “People’s Choice” award.
The South Shore Camera Club has been serving the needs of both amateur and professional photographers for over 83 years, and is one of the oldest camera clubs in the Boston area. From beginning enthusiasts to professionals, our photographers focus on diverse subjects and techniques ranging from photojournalism to portraits to fine art landscapes and everything in between. Meetings are held on Tuesday evenings in Quincy. Our primary mission is to further the knowledge of our members and foster fellowship to all. Monthly competitions are held for members’ work to be evaluated by a judge, who provides a critique of each picture in the competition. Often our meetings feature speakers who present relevant photographic topics. The club also sponsors member-led workshops and road trips, both local and distant, to put members in interesting places with their cameras. Annual dues are only $50/individual or $75/family. South Shore Camera Club is an approved charitable 501(c)(3) organization. For more information, please visit our website at www.southshorecameraclub.com. The Milton Public Library is located at 476 Canton Avenue, and if you would like to apply for an exhibit in our gallery, contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757, x. 3. We hope you enjoy the show!
