Hello Friends and Neighbors!
My name is Kyan Thornton and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Town Meeting Member, Precinct 2. I look forward to representing you and serving our community in town government to make Milton the best it can be.
My husband, Kofi (Bosque-Hamilton), and I have lived in Milton for 6 years with our two children, Shanti, a 5th grader at Glover, and Ellis, a preschooler at Discovery Schoolhouse. During our time in Milton, our family has played and coached town soccer and basketball; I have served on the Diversity Committee at Glover; and I have worked tirelessly with the neighbors on my block to address the safety of our children’s route to and from school. My family enjoys patronizing the businesses of Milton Village, and we are regular riders of, and advocates for the Mattapan High Speed Line.
While my husband and I are both from cities outside of Massachusetts, we have grown very fond of the small town environment Milton provides. I love Milton for being home to a diversity of residents, from homeowners who have lived in town their entire lives to new families; families with two working parents and families with a stay at home parent; single parent families as well as single people and couples. I am interested in becoming a Town Meeting Member to ensure that Milton remains inclusive of residents from all backgrounds, and that town government prioritizes the concerns of Milton’s diverse populace. If elected, I will work to make sure a full range of perspectives are considered as Milton makes decisions regarding commercial and residential development, improves on safe routes to school, and continues to fight against the increased flight paths over town. As an ESL teacher at North Quincy High School, I work not only to teach my students English, but to also teach valuable critical thinking skills. I will bring my own critical thinking to every issue presented at Town Meeting so that I can help make the best decisions for our town.
Thank you for considering me.
