Fostering Healthy Relationships in Our Children: Preventing Teen Dating Violence

It’s never too early to start.

Please join us for a special presentation to parents/guardians.

Wednesday, January 4, 2017 6:30 p.m. in the Pierce Middle School Auditorium

As the Center for Disease Control points out, “Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime.” Although one might think that the late elementary and middle school years are too early to think about the prevention of teen dating violence, a strong research base suggests that this is precisely when work in this area must begin. Preventing teen dating violence while teens have already begun “dating” is far less effective than doing this critical work in the early years.

Last year, the Pierce Middle School was awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to support work that would foster healthy relationships in our youth. As part of these efforts, we are pleased to invite parents and guardians to attend a presentation by Casey Corcoran, Program Director for the Children and Youth Program at Futures Without Violence.

During this presentation, Mr. Corcoran will present data that define and describe teen dating violence, delineate the healthy behaviors we hope to see early on in our children, and define what role we as caregivers play in promoting the development of healthy relationships. We hope that you will be able to join us for this important presentation!

Sincerely,

Dr. Karen L. Spaulding
Principal
Pierce Middle School
