In December 2016, the Milton Public Library is offering several fun events for adults and families. Our series “Tuesday Night at the Movies” will happen on December 6, starting at 6:30 p.m., with the film called “The Big Short.” This has superb performances from a stellar cast, to include actors Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. When the banks committed the greatest fraud in U.S. history, four outsiders risked it all to take them down. Based on the unbelievable true story and best-selling book by celebrated author Michael Lewis, critics have called this movie “brilliant and explosive.” It was described as “one of the most absorbing and entertaining films of the year” when it was released in 2015. “The Big Short” is rated R for pervasive language and some sexuality/nudity, and the running time is 130 minutes. Please note it is also not suitable for children, but if you have not seen it, it is not to be missed!
Then on Thursday, December 8, starting at 7 p.m., Boston Globe Film Critic Ty Burr returns with his movie reviews in a program called “The Good, the Bad, and the Really Terrible – Films of 2016.” Join the fun as Ty entertains us with his thoughts on the movies you just have to see and… the movies you just have to avoid! Don’t miss out – bring a friend, sit down and enjoy this lively discussion. There will also be a lively winter concert on Saturday, December 10 from 2-3 p.m. with the vocal group “Mixed Emotions,” which hails from the Riverside Theatre of Hyde Park. This is a versatile and talented group of young singers who will present a holiday cabaret and revue of musical showstoppers, spanning many periods and styles, from pop to Broadway, jazz to rock, classical to swing. They are just fabulous performers and the show is sure to get you and your family into the spirit of the season! It should be a very enjoyable hour and is jointly sponsored by The Milton Woman’s Club.
And our ongoing programs continue with the Milton Knitting Group meeting on Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 17 at 10 a.m., and the First Friday Book Chat with Will is actually on the second Friday this month, which is December 9 starting at 11 a.m., all held in the lower level Conference Room. All of these programs are scheduled in the Keys Community Room unless otherwise noted, and they are kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library. They are free and open to the public, and for more information, call Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757, x. 3. The Milton Public Library is located at 476 Canton Avenue, Milton and all events are free and open to the public.
