S. Elaine Craghead announces candidacy for for School Committee
I am passionate about education, having spent the past 25 years as an educator, board member for educational associations, and in-class volunteer. As an Associate Professor of Humanities at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, I teach many freshmen each semester and am intimately familiar with what college readiness really means, and the skills that Milton students will need for life beyond the classroom, in both college and careers. I have served on the board of the New England Association of Teachers of English and am a current board member of the Massachusetts State College Association. I have also served in Milton as a Town Meeting Member, as a library speaker, as Milton Cultural Council Chair, and as Glover’s Box-Tops Coordinator. I am committed to giving back to the community I love, where my wife Emily Goldman and I have lived for 11 years, and where our child attend school—and is currently in the 2nd grade at Glover Elementary.
My experience in negotiating fair and responsible contracts, as well as enforcing them, should prove to be a valuable asset for the School Committee, as will my experience collaborating on multiple academic and local committees—I know how to get things done as part of a team. I am committed to enhancing services for SPED and increasing time for art, music, and gym for all students.
Milton has wonderful schools, of which we can all be proud. With a seat on the School Committee, I will collaborate with other committee members to maintain and enhance the system. I believe that we should dream big, but remember the bottom line. I respectfully ask for your vote on April 26th.
