Presentation and discussion on air traffic / air pollution impacts to take place at the Milton Public Library

Please attend this talk and Q&A given by Wig Zamore, CAC representative for Somerville and an expert in air and vehicular pollution.

Wig Zamore, who provides ongoing research support for Somerville’s Improving the Health of Near-Highway Communities project, works to protect communities from highway air pollution.

During this information session, Zamore will speak about:

  1. How and why grass roots Somerville citizens evolved toward working on local land use evolution, regional transportation, environmental quality and public health.
  2. What the project’s investigators have found out about the serious health impacts of regional transportation impacts on local communities after a decade of working with Boston’s research universities.
  3. Near-road transportation air and noise pollution and health effects, community design tactics, and the emerging science of aviation related impacts.

The project’s investigators, including Zamore, have worked with dozens of graduate courses and their findings on transportation pollution impacts have been published in many of the best environmental health journals. The project’s community-based participatory research funding has come from the National Institute of HealthUS Environmental Protection Agency, US Housing and Urban Development, and the Kresge Foundation.)
