During the month of February, the Milton Public Library is offering some great programs for adults and families. Director Will Adamczyk will host his “Literary Book Club” on Monday, Feb. 8 to discuss the book, A Plague of Doves by Louise Erdrich. The group meets at 7 p.m. upstairs in the Art Gallery. On Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m., Boston Globe Film Critics Ty Burr and Janice Page return for our annual “Handicapping the Oscars.” Join us for a very lively and fun talk about the movies of 2015, so you know which ones not to miss! This always gets a great turnout so come early.
On Saturday, Feb. 13 starting at 11 a.m., herbal and tea specialist Lisa Tavakoli offers a workshop called “Pairing Tea and Chocolate.” She is a certified tea specialist and she also owned and operated Hallowed Herbs Tea House and Cooking School in Quincy. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, she will share her knowledge of the healthy and heartful benefits of chocolate and tea, along with samples of both. In addition there will be another “Coloring for Grownups: Drop in Workshop” happening on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m., so come relieve some stress with a very relaxing activity, complete with a cup of cocoa. Our “Tuesday Night at the Movies” pick for February is “Mission Impossible Rogue Nation” (2015) which will be screened in a free program starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23. The running time is 131 minutes. This film is rated PG-13 (for sequences of violence and brief nudity), and it offers non-stop action starring Tom Cruise. It is not suitable for children.
Our ongoing program “Knitting with Nina” will happen on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 7-8:30 p.m. and also on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the lower level Conference Room. And Director Will Adamczyk will hold his “First Friday Book Chat” in the Conference Room at 11 a.m. on Feb. 5, so join us to talk about good reads. Finally the highlight of the month will be a concert to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (in advance!) with “Two Old Friends,” otherwise known as Jim Prendergast and Emery Hutchins of Maine. They are returning to play a variety of instruments and will perform Irish and country tunes. Come join the group for a foot-stomping good time! The event will be on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. and is co-sponsored by the Milton Woman’s Club.
All of these programs take place in the lower level Keys Community Room, unless otherwise noted, and are free and open to the public. They are sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library, and for more information contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian at (617) 698-5757, .x3.
